The Academy is looking to hire a Food Services Director to serve grades 1-9.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education equivalent to completion of high school and two years experience in an institutional or commercial food service operation. Possess the ability to create and follow written and verbal instructions. Prefer experience with food service industry application software. Supervise, train and manage a middle school or 9th grade campus food preparation operation and maintain customer service. Ensure appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served. Meets all time constraints set by the school menu requirements established by central kitchen. Meet health codes issued by city, state and federal agencies. Obtain Food Handler Certification as required by the Texas Department of Health.

SALARY: $18,000 per year

DAYS: 185

The stars are aligned for good things to happen for the charter school movement in America, the president of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools recently told a couple of hundred leaders of such schools in Wisconsin.

"We have a moment in front of us like none other," Nelson Smith said, a chance to increase quality and the impact of charters as a whole.

Now, he said, if they could just get more people to understand what charter schools are.

So it is for charter schools - growing, providing both exciting and unsettling results, and still trying to establish themselves, both in practice and in the public mind.

In Milwaukee and nationwide, some of the most successful and attention-worthy schools are charter schools. So are some of the schools at the bottom of the spectrum. And a lot are in-between, with achievement results on a par with most other schools and with programs that are not particularly innovative.

The Panthers will be closing out the 2008-09 school year with the following field trips.

FRIDAY MAY 8TH: SIX FLAGS ARLINGTON
Students from the 7th, 8th and 9th grades will get on the bus as we head to Six Flags in Arlington. There is a $20 fee for this trip. We have room for seven parent chaperones, available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Please contact Ms. Williams if you would like to be a chaperone.

TUESDAY MAY 12TH: FISHING EXCURSION FOR 8TH AND 9TH GRADES

TUESDAY MAY 12TH: HISTORY FIELD TRIP FOR 7TH GRADE

THURSDAY MAY 21ST: BLACK OUT AT CARVER MUSEUM FOR ALL STUDENTS

FRIDAY MAY 22ND: MCKINNEY ROUGH FOR 8TH AND 9TH $10 FEE

TUESDAY MAY 26TH: BOTANICAL GARDENS FOR 5TH AND 6TH GRADES

THURSDAY MAY 27TH: SIX FLAGS SAN ANTONIO

The Panthers are on the prowl again! Track season has begun in earnest. Track practice is held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 on the track of Johnston High School. Coaches Howard and Muhammad said that they are expecting great results from the 25 athletes who have come out for the team this year.

The first track meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd in Round Rock. Check the School Calendar for the complete schedule.
