Debo Adejobi

African Drum Instructor

Mr. Adejobi immigrated to the United States after completing high school in Lagos, Nigeria. He studied English at Florida State University and continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in Communications and Theatre.

He has written, directed and recorded audio CDs, videos and documentaries which have garnered critical reviews. Most recently, Mr. Adejobi has taught African drum classes and Story Telling under the auspices of Carver Community Cultural Center in San-Antonio, for the San-Antonio school district. Through this medium he has been able to inspire, inform, instill, entertain and re-educate the students about African culture and its diversity. Mr. Adejobi is also the father of two beautiful children - Caridad and Rene who keep him hoping.

Mr. Adejobi currently instructs African Drum classes for K – 5th grade.

Stacey Baldon

Dance Instructress

Ms. Baldon was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in Dance and a minor in Spanish. In addition to her studies at SHSU, she spent summers studying dance with different dance companies. Ms. Baldon also studied Spanish abroad in Puebla, Mexico and Heredia, Costa Rica. She currently dances professionally in the Austin area.

Ms. Baldon currently teaches Dance.

Malik Omar Daniels

Art Instructor

Mr. Daniels’ reason for teaching is simple: “I am a man who has been given the opportunity to experience information from different people and resources and I want others to have the same opportunity.”

He is a graduate of Langston University with a B.S. in the field of science and an Associate in Art & Science. He has been blessed to have 12 years of experience with the Pre-K-12th grades in multiple subject areas. His main focus is science through the application of art and math. He hopes to increase his educational goals by offering his resources, skills and services to Texas Empowerment Academy.

Mr. Daniels is currently the art instructor for K-5th grade.

Karin Gay

Teacher

Karin E. Gaywas born, in Detroit, Michigan.
Her childhood included a lot of moving around due to the fact her father was in the military.

Mrs. Gay received an associate degree in child development; she continued her educational journey at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in secondary education with a minor in English and Speech.

Mrs. Gay has taken graduate coursework in counseling at Tarleton State University. Soon after, she met her husband and together they raised their two daughters. After many years of homeschooling her daughters, she returned to the classroom.

Mrs. Gay loves teaching and learning. Most of all she enjoys learning from the students around her. She is an active member in her church and is fond of spending time with her friends and family.

Mrs. Gay is currently the Kindergarten teacher.

Keya Driver

Teacher

Ms. Driver is the 2nd grade teacher at Texas Empowerment Academy Elementary School. Ms. Driver received her Bachelor’s Degree from Huston-Tillotson University.

She enjoys teaching and lives by her personal motto, “Learning is an echo and there is so much space.” Ms. Driver loves to do arts and crafts, volunteering, writing and reading in her spare time.

Carldale Johnson

Teacher

Mr. Johnson is a native of Monroe, Louisiana. He moved to the Austin area several years ago with his wife and three sons. Mr. Johnson attended Huston-Tillotson University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. He also received a Master of Education degree from Texas State University, majoring in Elementary Education.

In addition, he is the 3rd grade teacher at Texas Empowerment Academy. Mr. Johnson believes that education gives us wings to expand our lives and to inspire us for greatness.

Candra McGee

Spanish and P.E. Instructor

Ms. McGee was born and raised in Austin, Texas, although she calls Chicago home, too. Even though her background is primarily in television and radio, she's excited to join the field of education and be a part of the the Texas Empowerment Academy family. Candra says, "as cliche as it sounds, these children are our future. I'm proud to help shape the minds of tomorrow." She believes that if you set your mind to it and work at it, you can accomplish anything.

In addition to teaching, Candra is an assistant coach with the Austin Striders Track Club.

Candra will graduate from Huston-Tillotson University in May, with a degree in English. She currently has a Radio/TV/Film degree.

Audra Mills-Ogbodiegwu

Teacher

Mrs. Mills-Ogbodiegwuis a native of Austin, Texas. She is married with three children Aaron (18), Ben (11) and Mya (9). Mrs. Mills-Ogbodiegwu has been teaching and coordinating afterschool enrichment programs for the past 6 years. She is a certified teacher who has taught kindergarten, 1st grade and ESL multi-age classrooms in public and private school settings.

Mrs. Mills enjoys teaching, reading and spending time with her family especially her children’s sports. Prior to education, Mrs. Mills-Ogbodiegwu was a social worker actively involved in community advocacy for over 15 years. She has a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Texas State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social work from University of Texas at Austin.

Her teaching philosophyis that “There is a brilliant child locked inside of each student” and it is our job to bring it out.

Chasalyn Rowlett

Kindergarten Assistant Teacher

Chasalyn Rowlett, from Terrell,Texas, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Huston- Tillotson University.  Ms.Rowlett is ready to share her great ideas and creativity with the kindergarten class.

Ms. Rowlett lives by the quote "Education is the key to success." She is very excited to be a part of Texas Empowerment Academy faculty and growing in the field. She looks forward to the opportunity to assist in the Kindergarten classroom.

Bridgette Stuart

Teacher

"Ms. Bridgette,” as she is referred to,was born and raised in Arkansas. She graduated with a Bachelor in Education and a minor in Sociology from Henderson State University. Upon graduation she moved to Dallas, Texas. Ms. Bridgette is very passionate about the importance of Math and Science and understands that being a great teacher is very challenging, yet rewarding.

She loves to teach by the motto, "A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.”

Ms. Bridgette is currently the fourth and fifth-grade Math and Science teacher as well as the fifth-grade homeroom teacher.

Brittany Stuart

Teacher

Ms. Stuartis from Magnolia, Arkansas. She attended school in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she received her bachelor’s degree from Henderson State University.  Ms. Stuart believes that EVERY student can ACHIEVE by teaching EVERY student to the best of her ability!!!

Ms. Stuart is the fourth grade homeroom teacher as well as the fourth and fifth grade Language Arts instructor. In addition, Ms. Stuart serves as the elementary campus’ reading coordinator.
